Hospitality Management Certificate

The Hospitality Management certificate is focused on preparing students to understand the planning, analysis, and decision-making techniques needed for management positions in the hospitality industry. Students will develop skills related to principles of management, sustainability, development, marketing, finance, and service quality as they apply to the hospitality industry. 

This certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of designated courses, all courses may be taken online.

Admission Requirements

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree at TAMU:

  • If required, have permission from their departmental advisor to apply for the program
  • All TAMU students in any major may apply
  • An overall TAMU GPA of 2.0 or higher is required for acceptance into the HSMG program
  • Must complete the HSMG admissions application and essay

Currently Enrolled in a Graduate Degree Program at TAMU:

  • If required, have permission from their faculty committee chair to apply for the program
  • All TAMU students in any graduate degree may apply
  • An overall TAMU graduate GPA of 2.0 or higher is required for acceptance into the HSMG program
  • Must complete the HSMG admissions application and essay
    • Note: There is a maximum number of undergraduate classes a graduate student can take based on their program. Please confirm with your faculty committee chair or Academic Advisor.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

  • You must apply to TAMU as a non-degree seeking student (https://admissions.tamu.edu/other/nondegreeseeking)
  • Must complete the TAMU Admissions undergraduate non-degree seeking application with an essay.

  • HMGT 223 – Managing Hospitality and Tourism Organizations
  • HMGT 312 – Managing Human Capital in Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism
  • HMGT 314 – Service Quality in Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism
  • HMGT 352 – Hotel and Resort Operations
  • HMGT 353 – Food and Beverage Management
  • HMGT 354 – Restaurant Management

GPA Requirements 

  • Students must finish with a 3.0 GPA in the HSMG courses.
