M.S. Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism (Non-Thesis Option)

The Master of Science (M.S.) non-thesis option is intended for current professionals or those seeking a degree leading to professional service in hospitality, hotel management, recreation, events and tourism.

Program Details

  • Degree: M.S. Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism (Non-Thesis Option)
  • Credit Hours: A minimum of 36 semester credit hours of approved coursework is required for the Non-Thesis Option.

While the MS non-thesis program is customized by the student and their advisor to suit individual circumstances, it is a common requirement that all MS non-thesis students take a minimum of 15 HMGT credits (including HMGT 693 Professional Study).

The M.S. non-thesis coursework should include: 

  • Minimum of 3 credits statistics
  • Minimum of 3 credits of research methods
  • The use of no more than 12 hours in any combination of the following categories: 684, 693, 681, and 685 (no more than 8 hours Directed Studies may be used). 

A final degree plan should be approved by all members of the committee and should reflect the expected rigor of an MS degree.
