Hospitality Management Certificate

The Hospitality Management certificate is focused on preparing students to understand the planning, analysis, and decision-making techniques needed for management positions in the hospitality industry. Students will develop skills related to principles of management, sustainability, development, marketing, finance, and service quality as they apply to the hospitality industry. 

This certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of designated courses, all courses may be taken online.

Program Details

This certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of designated courses, all of which can be taken online. Students must earn a grade of a C or better in each course used to meet the requirements, and an overall average of at least a 2.5 in applicable coursework.

Admission Requirements

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree at TAMU:

  • If required, have permission from their departmental advisor to apply for the program
  • All TAMU students in any major may apply
  • An overall TAMU GPA of 2.0 or higher is required for acceptance into the HSMG program
  • Must complete the HSMG admissions application and essay

Currently Enrolled in a Graduate Degree Program at TAMU:

  • If required, have permission from their faculty committee chair to apply for the program
  • All TAMU students in any graduate degree may apply
  • An overall TAMU graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for acceptance into the HSMG program
  • Must complete the HSMG admissions application and essay
    • Note: There is a maximum number of undergraduate classes a graduate student can take based on their program. Please confirm with your faculty committee chair or Academic Advisor.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

  • You must apply to TAMU as a non-degree seeking student (https://admissions.tamu.edu/other/nondegreeseeking)
  • Must have 4-year degree from an accredited university with at least a 2.0 overall GPA.
  • Must complete the TAMU Admissions undergraduate non-degree seeking application with an essay.

Course Requirements (15) 

Choose five from the following:

  • HMGT 201 Foundations of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism
  • HMGT 211 Planning and Implementation of Events and Programs
  • HMGT 223 Managing Hospitality and Tourism Organizations (previously RPTS 323)
  • HMGT 302 Application of Tourism Principles (only for catalogs Fall 2023 and older)
  • HGMT 312 Managing Human Capital in Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism (W)
  • HMGT 314 Service Quality in Hospitality, Hotel Management, and Tourism (previously RPTS 444)
  • HMGT 331 Marketing in the Digital Age for Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism
  • HMGT 352 Hotel and Resort Operations (previously RPTS 421)
    • Note: If you took RPTS 304 or RPTS/HMGT 411, we will accept this course in lieu of HMGT 223/RPTS 323

GPA Requirements 

  • Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in each HSMG applicable course. 
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA in required HSMG courses to earn certificate
